Aurora International School is a co-educational school which offers an international curriculum. We currently offer comprehensive academic programs for the early years, elementary and middle school and will eventually offer academic programs for high school students as well.
Aurora International School is an IB World School. We are authorized to teach the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) and we are a Candidate school for the MYP**. Our Methodology
The design of the school and our academic program is based on well-established international best practices in teaching:
- designing learning to start from a child’s curiosity;
- collaborative and cooperative learning that is student-centered and inquiry-based;
- using motivational techniques to inspire students towards learning;
- giving students voice and choice in their own learning; and,
- assessment of students’ progress and achievement as a tool to further teaching and learning and not frighten or stunt learning.
Students are encouraged to learn independently, and they are held to high standards because of the belief that all students can learn if they are motivated and inspired based on their needs and interests. Moreover, our teaching methods focus on learner-engaging hands-on activities, and promoting creative thinking skills, problem solving skills and collaborative learning.
Learning Materials and Teaching Resources
Teaching resources in the Early Years and Elementary program include blocks, manipulatives, sensory equipment, puzzles, puppets, magnets, art materials, all kinds of 3D resources, as well as digital resources (from Pre-K onwards), charts, maps, books and handouts. Textbooks and workbooks are only used as one of several teaching tools that help us to complete our curriculum; these are particularly rare in the Early Years. Physical activity, learning through discovery and hands-on learning are essential components of every child’s day, every day.
These principles are applied in Middle School as well–with hands-on learning, varied and modern resources and engaging daily lessons.
All of these progressive ideals are not achieved by sacrificing academic rigor; on the contrary, intellectual development is strengthened by fostering a love of learning through these methods, thereby truly achieving high academic standards.
